To replace or not to replace?

I have a 2002 3.0L with only 110Km or 69K miles.

Besides your engine light going off and the codes telling you that you might need to replace your O2 sensor, is there any way that someone can tell that you need to replace a sensor?

My light came on for the first time and went to my indie shop to get a diagnosis. Guy said the I got a error code for my pre O2 sensor failing. Just wondering peoples thoughts as the engine light did go off the next day and the truck runs great and i feel no lost of power or any other issues.

I guess I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and replace it since its never been replaced before.

Its going in for a oil change anyways and was thinking of changing the spark plugs and battery since there are original items also. Yes or No?

Anything thoughts would be helpful.

With the O2 sensors, ask what the actual fault was. If it is lean mixture it is actually a unmetered air/vacuum leak problem, rich mixture would likely be MAF sensor caused. If the fault is O2 sensor heater circuit or slow to respond it would be the sensor itself.

As for the maintenance items, the plugs are due at 100k, sothose are due. And it you are still on the original 2002 battery you are due it not overdue! That baby may be on borrowed time.

weasel, correct me if I am wrong, is spark plug recommendation is for 100,000 miles (162,000kms), so there is still lots of time.

but, as for changing the oil and doing the spark plugs, the 3.0 is the easiest car you will ever work on. DIY and save the money. check the intake boot for a crack. you can search on here and you will find all the information you need. really easy stuff.

I was thinking he had 110k miles, didn't dawn on me (at 2 am while buzzed from plenty-o-whiskey ) that it was kilometers.

I guess it doesn't hurt to change the plugs early. Planning to do the oil change myself to save a little. My mechanic told me that there is two different types of batteries used in out trucks...one is a bit longer and a bit less money and the other is a bit smaller, more money and more amps. Is this right?

What is the best DYI for MAF cleaning?

i wonder if the cdn books tell you 162,000kms or 100,000kms? and what the american book tells you? that would be interesting to see...same with oil changes...
