I got a 2004 CPO and got 2 Masters and the Plastic Key, both my other X's got 4 keys. Apparently BMW lost the key before I bought the car but removed the valet key from my system.

BMW didn't lose your valet key, they just went cheap on you, that's all. I bought my 2004 3.0i brand new and they only gave me 2 Masters and 1 Plastic keys. They have started to do this starting with most 2004 year models.

When I purchased my '02 3.0i this July, there was only one key - I made it part of the "deal" that they would provide me another one, so they did - they had it ordered and it was there in about 4 days once they placed the order. Then later, when I was detailing my X, I found the valet key stuck to the rear in a magnet key holder - it was a great surprise.........so now I have 2 main & 1 valet.............

I think if you order one from the dealer, it's about $50+.
