Airconditioning slow to cool
. Mine, even after a service - just a top up, it takes anything up to 10 minutes of driving to get any cool air from the vents. Is there some trick to it, my brothers x5, same model etc, starts up pretty much straight away. The service tech. couldn't help.

Yeap, you should feel it pretty quick. It's not instant, but 10 minutes is way too long - it takes less time to even cool down a summer heated X interior, not to mention just feeling the cold air coming out of the vents.
There could be a couple of reason, well, even a damaged belt could cause the AC compressor not to spin correctly. I guess I would try a different/better service shop. |

Not right now. Come on up and roll down the windows. Sounds like a low charge. Does it blow out cold air after 10 min-or is it mearly cool?

It blows really cool so the charge is probably not the issue. I do get a bit of squeel from the engine bay on gear changes that I have been thinking is slipping belt so Chas3 you might be on the money there...I will check that out.

I believe you know that "Max" button that switches the temperature to the lowest and fires up the fans to the highest until you press it again for your old settings?
That does a great job here - not now because now it is snowing :-) Good luck |

I'm not understanding your posts...your car takes 10 minutes to cool down but it blows really cool? If it blows really cool, it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to be effective. What year is your X? You mentioned the X just had a service. Did they service the a/c as well? If not, it probably needs a charge or has air in the system which posters have suggested earlier.

Hi dublediff,
I have the same problem. Was it a slipping belt? I need to rev the engine up to 6k rpm to get the a/c to cool. Otherwise, it is just air blowing out from the fan. Is that normal? |
