Interested in Unit.
Hello,
I am in desperate need of an EHC module as I have a 2005 X5 4.8is with the indicator light on that says "Inact. Air Susp." After having my car for days troubleshooting, replacing the battery, the relay, etc., - the BMW dealership just called and said they needed to replace the "Height control unit" to fix the problem. Would you take $200 for it? Thanks so so much! Ken |

I am truly sorry but I cant sell it for that cheap. I paid $700 for it and ended up not needing it and I havent een tried to return it. They might even take it back. List on it here in Ky is more then what I paid because I drove to cincinnati to save $300 dollars. Used they are selling for 450 and up. I really need to get what I paid for it or a little less would be fine. Other then that If they wont take it back I would rather just keep it until I end up needing it. Sorry about that. What is the dealer trying to charge you for it?

How hard is the EHC module to replace? Once replaced, is there any special setup and programming ... "initialization" (BMW word) or is it just plug and play?

The Ehc is under the glove box. you have to take out the glove box about 6 or 7 screws. The its a plug that is connected to the ehc module. It takes about 10 mins. The dealer will charge at least a hour to put it in and a hour to program. If you know anyone that has a gt1 Bmw tool you can have them program it for you. Or you can put it in and take it to the dealer and have them charge you a hour to program. When i went to the dealer they wanted 1200 for the module and programming. I got this part brand new from a dealer in a different state for less. A few hundrend dollars less.Let me know if you need any help.

nas517, thanks for the information. I take care of a few car collections as well as the driver cars of the owners. One client has a few X5's. All '05 or '06 4.8is models. The air suspension on all of them has started to give him expensive fits now that they are out of warranty. We've managed so far to get everything taken care of as a courtesy as the guy has bought 40 or 50 BMW's over the years. I think that gravy train has finally ended and the latest X5 to have problems is an '05. BMW of San Diego wants $1,569.77 to replace and program the EHC module.
My only worry after reading this is even though they have diagnosed that as being the issue, if I were to swap it out myself and then take it in for programming and then it still had problems, I don't smell quite so rosy when it's all said and done. I'm tempted to just tell them to have BMW take care of it and keep my hands clean on this one. The buying and the swapping are easy enough, it's what happens after that worries me. Thanks again for the information. I may point my client to the EHC threads and such here and he can make his own decision. Gar |

Big Gar,
To be honest with you...BMW Lexington told me that I needed this module and quoted me about the same price. So i Asked them how much the part was and they told me about 1100 dollars. I started to call around different Bmw service departments and I ended up finding this for around 740. Then I found a buddy that has a Gt1 scanner. Before we put it in he erased the module and re learned the height. Ended up fixing the hold thing. I tried to return the part to Bmw and they wouldnt return it. They told me they cant return modules. So my worries is, your module might not be bad. You might want to get a second opinion. If it is you can call Bmw and tell them you are going to buy a brand new Ehc module cheaper from a differnet Bmw dealership becuase of the price differnece. This module I have has never been coded. Its brand new in the box. Never opened. So they would have to give you the same warranty. My part has a 2 year warranty on it already. The only thing they might give you problems with is putting it in. You would have to let them put it in too. You can also tell them you called a different Bmw dealer and they told you they will only charge 3.0 hours to install and program. And they have to match it. Ive done that before too. That will sve you alot of money. I can let you have the module for about 550. Its just sitting here anyways. People are charging 450 for them used. Then you can get it programmed and installed for 3 hours which should only be abour 350. Savings of $600 |

I'll pass this along to the owner. That's a pretty decent overall savings too. My time involved also costs him money though, and it's already sitting there at the dealer. That's a really generous deal you've offered and if it was my own I would have already sent you the money.
Thanks and I'll let you know if he wants to go that direction. Gar |
