I know your issue sounds far more complicated but I've had transfailsafe come on just because my MAF was either disconnected or I had the vacuum tube to the throttle body disconnected, causing a massive vacuum leak.

I'm assuming the speed sensor on the transmission has been reconnected?

I have many problems with my transmission. Was wondering if I could get some help? I have a 2001 X5 4.4i .Sorry, I didn't mean to jump in on your thread, but I can't seem to do it any other place.

49: Symptom gear check
52: Gear check 2
59: Stalling speed
54: Gear check 4
50: Gear check 1

OBD2 codes are:
PO20
PO31
PO32

Wayne, you are saying that the trans failsafe mode came on because of the MAF being disconnected? what other symptoms did you have?

it might be engine failsafe for his case
