Engine Replacment/Rebuild X5 4.4L (Atlanta Area)

Forum,

I need your help! I have a 2001 X5 4.4i with 157K miles on it now. I have loved this X5 and have kept it in great condition. However recently the car has shown signs of a bad head gasket and rather than just fix the head gasket itself, I think I would rather have the entire engine rebuilt. Is this smart or a waste of money? Does anyone know who does head gasket or engine rebuild work in Atlanta. Should I just trade/sell?

FYI, I just spent 2K on suspension and front axles, alignment a few hundred miles ago. I had the transmission rebuilt about a year ago at 3K price. It's driving like new now. So, I'd like to keep it a little longer.

Joe,

Thanks for your reply. I wonder if the 4.8 engine will fit my 01. I searched but didn't find the guy parting out his x5. Do you know his name?

really i dont think a head gasket job warrants a rebuild or a remotor unless you were dumping coolant into your oil. then i'd consider it, as i've had bad luck with bearings once coolant gets into the bottom end.
it's a 4.6 and i believe its the same motor as a 4.4, but i could be wrong.
