Unhappy Tire Questions...again

Hey guys, I told you how the Yokohama Geolandars are getting sent back through warranty. Well, I decided on Toyo's after reading how bad the Pirelli Scorpion Zero's are. I found this deal which seems to be pretty decent: shipping comes out to be $80 for four tires.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

-What are the pro/cons of getting it here instead of local/tire rack/discount tire etc?

-The guy at the local Discount Tire store is pushing me real hard to get either the Pirellis or the OEM Michelin's neither of which I want. Here's my question:

-Can I get my new tires mounted on the wheels at a different place (if I go back there, I know he'll get pissed that i didn't buy the new tires from him) and then just take the tires to the store to give them back? This shouldn't void the warranty or anything right?

TIA

It may be just me but there are some things I would not buy online mainly because if there is a problem I need somewhere to go back to so they can deal with any problems. Tires fall under that catagory unless they are purchased from a vendor who has an agreement with an installer in your city that will suport the vendors product. Just my 2 cents

Hey Vinuneuro, just get the OEM Michie MVX4s from your local shop and save the hassle of ordering the Toyos. They're standard equipment (all season) tires on more cars than any other tires I know. In simple terms, they're the best IMHO.

The MVX4's BLOW in bad weather. I had them on my X5 last winter and the X was all over the place. I'm a VERY good poor weather driver (got to learn in many a rear wheel vehicle) and am easy with the brakes/steering/gas. But the MVX's were horrible in any snow that wasn't packed down or had any ice in it.

I too had the concern that I'd have nobody really backing the product if I went with an online vendor like that. I'll drop the idea and look local. The OEM Michelins have absolutely no snow traction, in the 2.5 years that we had them, there were many close calls. Definately not goin back to them. I'll look local for the Proxes then.

That's a bit of a stretch. They were probably bald with little tread left. They're as good as any other all season out there on the snow. Heck even balding winter tires have little traction on snow. But anyway if you're deadset on the Toyos then so be it. Good luck!

They were pretty bad in snow, let me leave it that. I'm deadset on getting a tire that has decent winter performance along with good treadwear, noise, etc. The Proxes seem to be the only one up to the job. When I searched, I found many threads with many owners here happy with them, which was a big contributing factor to my choice.

Where'd you read about Pirelli Scorpion Zero's being so bad?

Kevin and a couple other members here. Noise was the major complaint. Then there's basically every review out of the hundreds on TireRack. A LOT of complaints about noise there and many more about treadlife. Looks like many dealers have been changing them on Toureg's and Cayenne's since it was the OEM.

I really wish they had made the Assimetrico version of it in 18" since it's supposed to be a fantastic tire.
