Check engine light - quick question

Hey All,

My check engine light came on again for a "cold start" issue and I was wondering how easy it is to pick up one of those devices that will let you read and clear the "check engine" light and any other future faults the X might send my way.

Is it even worth my time to figure out how to use one of those things (sorry, I don't know what they're called) or am I better off just going to my local shop and have them re-set/clear the fault message?

I've already had the X in the shop for the cold start issue and the Indy told me to just stop by when it gets warmer to clear the fual setting if it came on again.
