Hose on thermostat came off

I finally changed my thermostat on sunday after driving for about a month with my car not getting up to temp, I taught I put everything back the way it should be, but while test driving it about 50 MPH I got "check coolant level", with smoke coming from my hood, after a quick check I found the upper hose from the thermostat off, I think it's because it was not installed properly but I am not sure, after re-attaching it and filling back up with antifreeze everything is back to normal..

Did you change the hose as well? Last, not to be insulting, you DID tighten the hose clamp right? No real reason for the hose to just slip off.

If it's a V8, it doesn't have hose clamps, just quick-connect fittings. They are possible to install incorrectly, as they are a pretty tight fit, so if the clip doesn't seat, it will come off when pressurized.

Not sure about the 6 cylinders.

A good, heavy spray silicone on both ends of that hose connection will make it slide right on and give a positive "click". Sometimes all the resistance from the dry rubber o-ring will make it feel like it's seated fully when it's not.

Ok thank you, I guess it did not clip on properly, because the temperature gauge was at the middle at the time it came off, it seem to be fitted on now, I have been driving it for a couple day on the highway without issues, thank you all for you replies.
