She's pretty and like you I've got the itch for a little more power. Probably do something before the end of the year if the gas prices don't get too crazy in the months ahead.
Good Luck!

nice mods on the 540, didn't go overboard. I had an 03 540 sport, then an 03 M5. I love that generation...and the E28 and E34 too!

Wow $35k over 5 years. That must be meticulous maintenance. I'm hoping to spend half that. Though I've already spent $2080 in fuel since purchase back in August. Will have to do a total like you have by going over records soon and update my build thread. Now you have me interested.

Oh and now you've given me yet another thread to read. At least it's only 5 pages...

Keep in mind that $3000 of the maintenance and parts is 20" Michelins. I've never curbed one, but another $2000 or so of the total is refinishing wheels with paint and powder coat (because I am obsessive like that).

And.. just bc I would like to know the impact.. How much would *you* think that a set of custom wheels might cost?

True, the steam rollers on these things can get expensive. I sacrifice a little bit of road noise to go with the "cheaper" brands like Nitto ($410/pr) to cut a little cost. It's still way quieter/more comfy than the Bridgestone RF's and doesn't break the bank.

As for custom wheels... I can only tell you what mine cost. $1850 on a black friday promotion from the retailer and manufacturer. Will weigh the actual savings per corner in the upcoming week when I do my brake service. I'll report in my wheel thread then with whether or not it saves a bunch of weight. As an aside, sold the 168's with what I would consider bad curb rash (thanks PO) w/ decent tires for $1100 on the local CL in a day to help offset costs.

Either way, love your X and how you use/enjoy it. I am hoping to make the same sorts of memories with my daughter in ours. Taking her (2+YO) on her first real road trip next month to Florida to visit family she hasn't met. She'll never remember this trip but we will take plenty of photos to help tell the tale to her later.
