Folding mirror
My passenger side mirror was very loose and would not stay in place. Also when I used the button to fold the mirrors, the passenger side would make a horrible noise.
I read about the little metal clip that sometime breaks, but the symptoms didn't sound the same for my mirror. Here is the link to that thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ixed-pics.html The folding motor sounded like it was running, but the mirror was too loose to fold. I tightened the screws as indicated in this thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...bolt-pics.html But that did not fix the problem So, I pulled the mirror apart and unscrewed the torx screws that I had just tightened. Then I unscrewed the motor housing. Inside the housing there is a silver metal motor. It looks like is is supposed to stay stationary while the mirror moves. Mine spun freely in the housing. It appears that there are little metal tabs on the bottom of the motor that had broken off allowing it to move inside the housing. Here is a pic of the part that I am referring to: Last edited by xxxxxman; 02-22-2011 at 09:27 PM. |
