OEM radio/audio randomly turning off

I purchased a 2002 4.4i last year, and every 10-20th start after 40 secs the audio from the radio (CD, Nav, all modes) turns off after exactly 40 secs (yes, I timed it) of normal play. The radio is still powered, but no sound is audible. If I turn the radio on/off, it resumes normal play.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I never did find a solution. I didn't replace any parts but I did re-seat all connections. My radio still acts up sometimes but it's quiet rare now. I'm living with it basically.
