Vibration pulling away

I intermittently get a bad vibration when pulling away. The whole car shakes. (E53 4.4i) It does not do it all the time. Typically around 2k revs. Never at speed. Last for a few seconds then goes. I suspected the gearbox but can not replicate the problem when driving manual. Not sure this is in any way a valid test. thoughts?

What year and how many miles?

Could be a number of things.... transfer case, motor mounts, guibo...??

Well, you do have enough miles and age to where things will start wearing out on you. Have you replaced or inspected any of the things I mentioned before? Motor mounts and drive shaft "flex disc" (guibo) would probably need to be replaced soon.
Tires that are out of balance can cause vibration at certain speeds as well as warped brake rotors... ???
