Major Breakdown, big cluck, engine whined up and nothing.

So, looking for some advice/help. Had transmission rebuilt at 90k miles on my 2003 x5 4.4. I currently have 115k Miles on it. I hit the gas at a stop light and went about 50 feet and hear a big cluck engine winds up a few not so pretty noises later no power i tried to put in park and Nothing. Had to put parking Break on to keep car from rolling. The noise i heard was like metal on metal not grinding but rubbing. Any ideas of what it could be before the shop looks at it. Just trying to decide what else can go wrong I have about 7k in the car in the last 2 years. Wonder if I should keep it or get rid of it. Problem is I love my car. UGH. Any help would be appreciated.

Either blown tranny or broken driveshaft.

Kinda what I thought drive shaft. Was hoping for something a little more simple. Ugh. wonder how much that one will cost.

Stay strong, life has its ups and downs, good times and bad. Sounds like this is one of those automotive setbacks. You will get through it buddy.

Do report back with the diagnosis.
Guessing ….. if this were the driveshaft, it would seem the AWD would kick in. Computer should throw diagnostic codes. SES on or check control?

No fault codes. that's why if tranny went out I would get a fault code. I did when it did go out 15 miles ago.

Search for front axle problems on this site. Many 00-03 owners have experienced stripped output shafts. There isn't enough splines where the shaft enters the front differential and they eventually give out.

sounds like the stripped spline on one of the front axles. I believe this will cause loss of power and the front powers the sytem, so once the front gets stripped it cannot activate other corners of the car. there is a rebuild kit or youll need a new front differential case(I think thats what it is) keep us posted.
