How to remove climate control module w/ NAV?
I've searched on here and Google but can't find a procedure to remove the climate control module in our 02 X5 4.4i without using the BMW special 'tool'. It needs to be replaced because the module's power is cutting in and out, which doesn't seem to be a common problem for the X5. Has anyone removed the module before? Thanks in advance.

It is very simple. All you need is something flat (i.e. a screwdriver) to pry it out with. Just be careful not to damage the dash or the climate control unit.
Also you should try replacing the Final Stage Resistor before replacing the very expensive control unit. |

My climate control issue is finally resolved and thought I'd update this thread... again. The climate control working after the fsr replacements were coincidental. After going through a couple more fsr's, I took the car to a specialist and he found bad (damaged) wiring behind the glove box area. I'm not sure how this happens but just another thing to check before changing your climate control module and/or fsr.

Thanks trent, there doesn't seem to be much room to get a screwdriver in there but I'll figure something out. I did read about the final stage resistor issues but those problems didn't seem related to what's going on with mine. For the entire unit to cut out, I don't think it would be the fsr.

The fit between the bezel and dash is tight, but the module shouldn't be too nudged in to take out. It just sits in the dash with weak clips that hold it. By prying between the plastic bezel and dash, you should be able to wiggle it out.

Thanks again to both of you, much appreciated. I'm thinking a butter knife might do the trick. It looks like it would fit in there perfectly. I'll try it tomorrow.

I was actually thinking the same thing but I didn't want to give anyone bad direction and end up with a knife sticking out of their dash
