2004 X5 3.0 No Heat from face vents

Hey guys. I just bought a 2004 X5 last month and I absolutely love it. It has no issues at all except a little rattling that I was able to fix thanks to these forums and your help. The only other issue that I have had is the heater. I live in Canada and its really cold right now, so the heater has been necessary none stop. For the climate control, I can get heat perfect fine through the windshield heater, the feet heater, the rear heater, and the top heater. But when I press the button for air to come out of the face/front on blowers, it blows cold air. I've tried leaving that wheel in the middle, all the way to 3 red dots, everything. No matter what I do, it still blows out cold. I've been trying to make sense of what I've found here. Could this be my HVAC Actuator? Or am I just missing something obvious? I've tried searching around here but I can't find anything that exactly matches my situation. Your guy's help would be greatly appreciated, thanks alot :-).

Alex

Hi Alex,

sorry but it seems nobody has ever heard about that problem. As I did not. Only thing I could think about would be that your wheel doesnt move the part it should move behind the outlets. Ever thought about removing the outlets to have a look behind it?

Good luck and keep us updated when you find out what happened.

I have had this problem intermittently on my 2005 for around 4 years now. Sometimes it will suddenly start blowing cold...and I need to turn the ignition off, wait a few minutes and turn it back on for it to blow warm again. Never happens when in to the dealer of course. Maybe occurs 3 or 4 times per year. I've been told its the famous FSR (final stage resistor) acting up but I don't know. Maybe one day it will fail permanently and I'll need to figure this one out for sure...

Likely the water valve is the issue. #1 here (Pending auto temp or not).

RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 3.0i Water valve/Water hose IHKA

Do a search for "heater valve"

Mine does the same thing...it will come out lukewarm from the face vents but not completely warm.

Wait one second. You do know that there is a dial in between the vents that adjusts the air temp independently of the main temperature controls, right?

I have to say that that is the dumbest "feature" on the X5. What is the purpose of that dial? All it does is cause confusion.
