Peake Code 2b70

I have an 05 4.4 with this Peake code:
Table 22
2b70 - variable intake system, control

There are no engine lights or other driving issues. I tried to clear it to see if it would go away but it reappeared. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Thanks.

I'm thinking VANOS control. Is the engine running ok or is it lumpy ?

Hi,

I have the same readout but my X ('06 4.4) has a cold start issue. It doesn't always happen but when it's cold out and I start it first thing in the morning it starts really rough and the engine (whole car) shakes for about 20 seconds and then smooths out. The "Service Engine" light blinks and stays on.

Apparently this is a design flaw in the 4.4 X's and some of them have this nagging issue. My local indi quoted me about 3K to fix the issue but also stated that it doesn't have to be fixed if you can live with the "shakes" here and there.

Do a quick search, you'll find a lot of info on this.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. The car seems to run fine, no lumpiness or cold weather starting problems, and believe me, it's been cold here -25C. No Service Engine lights either. I overfilled the oil on my last change about 500 km ago but caught it after driving about 50 km. Could that have caused some issues?

BTW, Bunyan, I tried to do a search but couldn't find the specific Peake code or the fault description. Is there another search I could do?

I also want to know what this code means.
Yesterday i searched the car for error codes and had gotten this about 700km ago.
It's in Swedish though and says "Sugrörsomkoppling Ledningsavbrott".

This thread is probably the only one on the net that has brought up this error code.
Would be nice to get som info on it.

Sedate driver,
I just received my obd2 scanner and checked the faults on my X and a bunch of faults showed up but not the 2b70 fault the local shop gave me.
I do'll a little research on the faults my obd2 found and will post up once verified.

Hey All,

So I went a head and purchased the full version of Torque and I'm pretty impressed. There's a lot of info there and the Fault readings give you explainations as to what is at fault. Here's a current fault readout from Torque that I was able to send to my e-mail:

Fault log report generated by Torque for Android
=================================================
Vehicle VIN:
Vehicle Manufacturer: BMW
Vehicle Calibration ID:

Current Fault Log
------------------
P0301: Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0306: Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
P0303: Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0307: Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected
P0304: Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0308: Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected
P0302: Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
Pending Fault Log
------------------
P0301: Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0306: Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
P0303: Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0307: Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected
P0305: Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
P0304: Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0308: Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected
P0302: Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
Historic Fault Log
------------------
ECU reports no historic faults
End of report.

I'm not sure where the local shop got the "2b70" fault code but the above is exactly what the shop stated was wrong with the X. Apparently if the weather is very cold the X will start rough and the engine will misfire on several cylinders in order to try and correct the issue. The shop also stated that this issue is a "design flaw" that BMW has in the 4.4 X's. Some have the issue and some don't. It's about $3.5K - $6K to fix depending on Indi or Dealer. However, if you can deal with the shake on the startup when it's cold you don't have to fix it. It's a non issue in the summer. Can anybody on this forum second that?

I'm looking forward to learning more about Torque and all the options it provides.
