I have had this Exide battery in my cars (Volvos, BMWs) for 5 years, zero issues. About $95, to me this is the "best bang for the bucks".

Unfortunately for me, my HD doesn't carry it. Or half the other stuff I've gone there after lol. And no Menard's near me.

We all know for fact that L5 (H8) fits perfectly.
I am posting this photo to help others re smaller battery sizes. If you look at the difference of L3, L4, and L5 in terms of length, they are about 1.5 inches from each other: 10.88" ---> 12.44" ---> 14.00". If you look at the battery tray, there are 3 holes, about 1.5" apart. So I think the other 2 holes are for the L3 and L4 batteries. If anyone here has installed smaller battery sizes such as L3, L4, please post your experience in case others need to install smaller batteries (such as L3, L4 bc L5 is not available). ---

Crowz,
Where's the database? I could saved lot of cash on a battery. I installed an AMG Duracell in March. So far, it's the most expensive part I replaced on my X5. Are there other database lists? I keep an excel spreadsheet for maintenance. On it are suitable replacements parts I find from this site.

Idk why people spend a lot of $ on battery.
The EXIDE L3, L4 or L5 runs about $110 ---> $130 at Home Depot. EXIDE has been great for me. Usually lasting > 6-8 yrs. Good warranty too.

- I am using standard acid-type battery such as Exide ($100-$130), lasting anywhere between 6-8 yrs.
- Does anyone have long-term experience on AGM battery? Is it that much better than standard acid-type battery to justify the cost of almost twice that of standard battery? The reddit thread below seems to have good info re Start-Stop cars: https://www.reddit.com/r/cars/commen...have_a_longer/

Always disabled auto start on any vehicle equipped with it so can't comment on that. But in general, in south Texas, an AGM or flooded cell will last 4-6 years in a BMW depending on equipment level. I only buy AGM if I don't feel like coding the battery type out. Running AGM in the E70 and F15 X5. Other BMW's (E53, E61) have flooded cell. I usually pay ~$130 at Sam's for their H8's. Last AGM was ~$200 from Oreilly's bought in Feb for the wife's "new" F15 which had the original 6 year old OE battery die. The AGM in the E70 was ~$165 in 2018 from Advance Auto but was a coupon buy.

My last AGM battery on the X5 was still going strong after 7 years. I chickened out and replaced it with another AGM battery a few weeks ago. Another AGM battery in my Z4M crapped out only after 2 years - Got to use it's "Free" replacement warranty on that.
