Unknown Rear Passenger Window Part For 2003 E53 4.6is

Open and closed the rear passenger window yesterday. It was a pretty hot day, around 90 degrees.

Upon closing the window went all the way up, then I hear s small breaking noise. The window drops down immediately followed by a loud clacking noise.

Opened the door panel up today. Found this piece with a few broken bits. There's a cable nestled inside as you can see.

Hopefully replacing this piece will repair the window again.

Does anyone know the part number to it?

Much obliged!

Theo

That's part of the window regulator. It looks like it came apart and the clip that attaches to the window broke off.

Remove the rest of the window regulator and see if you can reassemble. The slide with the spring will have two springs one on each side of the cable. It looks like the slide didn't break just cable popped out. If it's cracked: broken you can likely repair with JB Weld. The clip that holds to the window looks snapped. That's the part you need.

Watch this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwFFd7OJGaI
When I replaced the front regulator, I followed the video steps. Works great. A simple modification and cheap. The white clip looks identical to the front one.

Cool Just replace the regulator, way easier

Maruzo,

It isn't worth the time to rebuild the regulator, just buy a new one. It is much easier to replace (4 bolts) than trying to rethread the cable (it's spring loaded) while rebuilding the regulator. The new regulator will come pre-lubed ready to install and they are not that expensive. Don't bother with the BMW brand, they are way overpriced. I have typically paid about $60 or less for the couple of regulators I have had to replace. So far I haven't replaced the same one twice so I guess that speaks well of the quality of the lower cost ones. Oh, by the way, each regulator in your car is different, parts not the same.

FCP has no question return policy. I recommend getting the part than using as a guide how to repair your part. It was no difficultly using a couple vice grips to tension the spring to re wrap the cable.

if the part is not reparable you have the replacement on hand, but if you can fix for $5 why wouldn't you?

I would also replace the bigger piece that holds the cable. It's likely broken or soon will be. I'm a fan of this solution: https://www.ebay.com/itm/16083545088...53.m2749.l2649

For $10, you can have a new piece for all 4 windows ready to install when the next one goes! I only recently installed the first two, but they appear to be a slightly more durable piece than the stock one.

Otherwise, you can also just buy a new regulator. I've probably replaced about a dozen over the years in my BMW's and came to the conclusion that the cheapest $25 ones are essentially as good (actually bad) as the OE BMW ones.

AM.

Bought this regulator repair kit off ebay and installed it. Cost 13 bucks and works great.

The plastic feels very thick and sturdy, so i think it'll last couple of years easily.

Thanks to everyone for input and suggestions.

I ended up buying an entire assembly but forgot to buy the motor as well. So I figured I give the repair kit a try.

That's a great kit good price. Almost always just the cable pulls out of the slide and could be repaired with a couple screws and a bent piece of metal. For $13 I'd take that.
