I got the whole cluster apart now, finally!

Now I need to figure out exactly what to use to clean up the contacts where the ribbon cable is attached.

The new ribbon cable came with paper backing, so it must have some kind of adhesive on it. Is it still necessary to apply heat over it or is the pressure from the metal bracket that holds the glass enough ?

I have successfully fixed three MID with dead pixels just by using nail polish remover and scotch tape.
