There is a difference between the 1st gen & facelift e53 X5. And some replies in this thread are specific to one or the other set-up...but its not revealed due to lack of vehicle's identification. If this applies to you then really consider adding your vehicles model/model year/build date in a permanent signature.

The vacuum lines for a i6 is completely different from the vacuum lines for a V8. If you want people to help you with this problem you need to provide some basic info about your car.

That line is probably the vent line for the transfer case. Can you post a picture of the line in question?

U are right. It is just the vent. I recently changed intake boots and hoses from maf down to icv and throttle body. Since that the cel comes and goes and now it's back on. I felt down the oil separator return hose and there was oil saturating the covering insulation. There was also oil under the ccv itself. I'm going to order ccv and 4 hoses to change the ccv hoses in hopes it cures my cel blues. I have NJ state inspection for emissions due by end of June! Anyone in nj that can do it please let me me know. I pay for labor!
