There is no way, due to how they are designed to operate, to get the DRL's to appear white. The LKM uses a lower voltage AC signal to power the highbeam lights in the DRL mode. You can change bulbs all you like but it will not make any difference. You either learn to live with them or o pay to have somebody switch them off using a computer to access the LKM.

I'm a bit late in the discussion, but in case that can help you, I've done that modification on my E46. I now use my aftermarket AE as DRL, and my OE DRL are now off, BUT can be used to flash.

This mod requires cutting and soldering wires though, and may not be exactly the same on a X5, but at least it may help you figuring how to do it.
