I'm only a DIY user but I've got a fairly decent kit:

I recommend doing it with a friend who has done it before, for the first time. If changing oil in the X is a 2 on the scale, brakes (done properly) will be a 3-4. Mainly because the bolts are almost always rusted/welded on. Get a penetrating spray.

I got my parts from Direct BMW and Mercedes Parts and Accessories All Original BMW stamped boxes and a decent price.

Did my W211 for $225 including front rotors, pads, and sensors.

if u do the DIY, just remember don't break the brake sensor on one of the rear brakes~~. it's not an expensive part, but if you break it, it'll be painful~~~

OMG, LOL! $10K doesnt buy a whole lot in the Snap-On book! I sold it for half of what I had in it...... To put it into perspective, my box was $9800....empty. (<--- thats the price of a new one)

Did you do it? Outcome? Nothing more satisfying than DIY. Don't forget to 'bed' the pads to the rotors.
