Different Powder Coated Wheel Color?

I had my 168's powder coated a gunmetal grey in matte finish a couple years back. I'm thinking of going to a semi gloss black. Here is a shot of the current rim color. Am I nutz to switch? After a day of driving, these things essentially look completely brake dusted and my hope with the semi gloss is to extend the time these rims actually shine.

ask jst, he will tell you 100% semi- gloss black.

I really like the gunmetal, theres just something throwing it off with the silver running boards. Look at mywidebody02's X5, he has a red 4.8is just like you with semi gloss black rims. i'll look for a thread on it

I do not think you are suppose to powder coat wheels. The slow heat up and slow cool down weakens the wheels, specially on forged ones.

Doing it twice...hmmm

Anyway I dont like black rims...the current color look s really good to me.

I think it looks slick... although I would have to agree that the running boards disconnect the look.

I think they look sick as is. Personally I would powder coat the running boards gunmetal grey to match the wheels.

I Agree with powder coating the running boards to match the current rim color. There are wheel treatments you could apply to combat the brake dust, or go with ceramic pads...zero dust from those.

I think the Black makes a better statement. The Gunmetal just looks a bit off. Might look better on a silver, white, or gray X. Here is mine with Matt Black wheels.

I would just paint the grill and running boards to match. Not only will it look nicer than black (IMO), but it is also 10x more original.
