Anyway I dont like black rims...the current color look s really good to me.
I'm not too worried about weakening the alloy.

Thanks to the others for the comments and photos. Interesting thoughts on a p-coated running board. I am less partial to the higher gloss with Imola in the images posted by Naz. The second example seems to fit my taste a touch better. I have done the grills already so everything is matte black vice rims and r-boards. Maybe I attempt to semi gloss these as-is. I do know I need change.

Many wheel manufacturers powder coat their wheels, or wheel centers on three piece wheels. I have 2 sets of forged 3 piece wheels for my race car that have powder coated centers and the finish has been flawless after several years of racing and brake dust abuse. Have another set of Fikse wheels that I'm going to disassemble this weekend to get the centers powder coated. And the OE 15" BBS wheels on my 528 were powder coated silver 7 or 8 years ago and these are my winter wheels now, still in good shape.

If you think about the amount of heat that brakes put off (500F+ in my case with aggressive Hawk HT14 or Pagid Black pads) lap after lap, it's a lot harder on wheels than 20-30 min in a 400 degree oven to cure the powder. I used my infrared heat gun to measure wheel temps after 30 min on the track and the wheel centers were close to 450 degrees at the hub area.

To me, the benefits of powder coating wheels is in the ease of cleaning as well as the durability of the finish.
