A/C not blowing cold.
I recently bought my wife a 2004 4.4 and we seem to be having a strange A/C issue.
I want to start by saying that this vehicle does not have an aux. fan. There is no sign that it was removed (no loose connector or open holes) and all I can conclude is that they stopped adding them to 4.4 in 2004. I looked at a few on ebay to get an idea if this one was missing and it appears that the V8's did not get fitted with them in this year.
I checked the freon charge and it has a standing head pressure of about 100 psi.
Now the issue, the A/C blows cold air when it feels like it. When you have driven for about ten minutes, when the vehicle is restarted after stopping the A/C seems to work fine (IE. going to a restaurant it will start blowing cool in about ten minutes and when you come out afterward it blows cold all the way home).
When the A/C works it works great, nice and cold. When it doesn't, the air still blows, it just comes out warm.
The compressor looks to be working (clutch locking) but the pressure will not change, it stays at the static level of about 100 psi on both high and low sides. I have some A/C service experience but never had a problem like this before.
Any advice before I start taking things apart?
