Thank you, I guess I have to try a new dealership… the one that I have been going to basically is doing nothing…

Idle drop is def normal during cold start (noticed the needle was before the first dot both times). What's with the big rev after? when mine does it, it surges a few hundred RPM then settles down.

Yes, the computer lowers the rpm as the car warms up. However, it should do it smoothly. Unfortunately, this process is not that smooth in my case. The video shows only one surge in rpm due to quick rpm drop. It has been few instances (I don’t have them on camera) that it surges twice before it stabilizes.

The occasional stumble is normal. If this is happening every single cold startup, there might be a problem with carbon buildup.

Is there any solution to solve this problem here? I also have this problem, but only surge to close to 1000 rpm before sattle down at around 600 rpm, not like what the video shows close to 2000 rpm.

I got this once as well. Really startled me actually. I may have not idled it long enough every other time though. I am a firm believer that sitting and warming up the car is not that great, so I am usually in drive about 15sec after startup.

Curious to see what others have found on this problem. I have an 06 4.8is. 77k miles. I also don't have any codes. Which pisses me off actually. I have a feeling there is an air leak somewhere. I just have to clue how to find it.

Hey Guys, no resolution so far. As it’s getting colder in LA, this is happening more often… I just ignore it these days... I am very interested to get this problem fixed though…
Rogerkiu – the videos that I posted on this page are the worst scenarios. Sometimes, it only shoots up to 1,000 or 1,200rpm.

X2 for MAF issue.

I have a 99 Passat that used to do exactly the same thing. Turned out to be a dodgy MAF. Disconnect it electrically and run the engine. Don't run it for too long with the MAF connection on though, just long enough to see whether it spikes or not. If it does the same thing then it is not the MAF but a simple and free test to do
