Funny, I thought they all looked the same. Got a picture of your remote?

Thats really weird, we've got a 4.8, so I think it came standard, never saw a remote.

This is what we have. Not as cool . Do you have remote start built-in as an oem option?

Youre all getting confused here. The picture above is a standard key for the car, the picture a lot further up (with the LED in it) is the heater remote. The aux heater is only an option for 3.0diesel X5's because they have a webasto thermo top heater built in as standard (seperate fuel burning heater).

Basically when you press the ON button on the aux remote, the light goes on for 3 seconds, then flashed once a second to confirm the heater is on. You can program the heater to stay on from 20 mins to an hour I think by doing certain key sequences on the remote.

I bought the aux heater remote kit from my local dealer and added it to my X5 3.0d myself.

I have a 4.4 2005 model and ordered quite a lot of options with it including aux heating. There are no restrictions to engine type. I also got the remote with the option, maybe because its not a cheap option on petrol engines.

You are correct with the explanations of the key remote

Does the remote for the 4.4 look just the same as the one in this picture?
So with your aux heater, can you warm your car up from COLD and when you get in, it`s nice and warm? If so, does it start your engine when you use the aux remote?

Yup! The remote on the pic is mine. Yup again, I can warm the car on from cold, that's the point. No, it doesn't start the engine, it has a separate heater (pic attached).

I use the system all the time and I'm loving it Just as I'm about to leave my office, I just walk up to the window 10-15mins earlier and turn the heater on, in a shopping malls, cinamas, etc. I've notice that I have been trying to park in stategic places lately The range is quite good too I've turned the heating on from about 700meters, also through walls and stuff.

ah that`s the same fuel burning heater as mine has. I was lead to believe that they only fitted them to diesels as an additional warm up heater because the diesel engines dont warm up fast engough.

Im just looking in my X5 BMW accessories brochure and it states in there that the parked car heating kit if only for X5 3.0d.

I love mine, one of the best mods I`ve ever done, the wife uses it everyday (when it`s cold of course).

We`ll you learn something new every day.

This is a good idea to warm up the car without starting the engine, this way no one can drive off your car when it's in warm mode.
