She is partly right IIRC. HID headlights in cars that did not come with them from the factory are illegal in NY, however, since yours are OEM, they are perfectly legal.

I wouldn't have said anything else about the headlights other than these are the original headlights that come from the factory. No need to elaborate. If you are completely stock under the hood, you can open it and show it to her. Basically an uneducated officer AND a non car person.

Would they be unfocused if they've never been tampered with? Or is this something that can go out of whack after time and needs to be re-calibrated?

And yes, the non factory HIDs can be very very obnoxious and distracting.

Those HIDs are a issue in NYC, really annoying driving and i see a car coming my way with light that blind me... I installed HIDs on my X but i also took time to recalibrate it right away after the installation making sure the projectors are level and pointed away from the driver. Alot of ppl either don't no or care that after the HID installation you should calibrate it, Or they just dunno that you should have projectors to help the glare and light distribution.

...sounds like no one has dazzled her headlights, if you will, in a while!

Like in the video, isn't it illegal if you are not using a headlight with ballast / focusing lense / and cut off levels (IE slapping a HID in old hondas, toyotas, etc)? unlike DEPO & DJauto lights that do have these?

IMO: I'd say 80% of people who raise their trucks/SUV's don't reposition their lights and some even run xenons. Now those will kill your eyes!

Naz, I think she would never get anything on you for your lights. All cars must comply to a national standard to be sold here. They must have X amount of square inches of turn signal lens, same goes with side mirrors. There are a host of these "standards" and if the car is sold like that, you are 100% safe.

I think she saw you in that bad ass Beemer and wanted an excuse to talk to you!

Yes, that is what I meant by amateur. Any modified headlight that has too bright a bulb, and doesn't have the correct focusing mechanism incorporated. Not just Hondas, can be BMW and Mercedes as well.

Just my two cents on this... When it seems clear you're getting a break, whether you think you did something wrong or not, the best answer always is; "thanks, have a nice night!"

Engaging in any further debate or conversation always has the potential to end badly for you...

Got pulled over for Cinco de Mayo one year driving the E34 M5 for my exhaust. You could tell this lady was new as the older guy stayed sitting in the car. She insisted that my exhaust was too loud, even after I repeatedly told her that it was bone stock. Aftere arguing w/ her back and forth, my last statement to her was that she will be waisting my, her and the courts time when I subpoena her to appear for my courtdate, we ALL walk outside to the parking lot and see BMWNA stamped on the bottom side of my mufflers. A few minutes later, I was given a warning and on my way. I don't have a problem w/ cops, but when I know I'm in the right, I'm going to argue until they back off because I hate going to court over their ignorance and need to flex their authority.
