Turn RDS off?

Can anyone tell me how to turn RDS off?
I have Nav & DSP, but I can't turn my rds off. I've tried everything.

You need to hook your X up to a GT1 and program it off. A dealer can do this or a shop that has a GT1 or similar tool.

Oh really? In the manual it tells you how to do it, but it doesn't work.
I'll ask my Mechanic at BMW if he can do it for me?
thanks wallyx5

I hope it will resolve my fm radio problems (channels cuts of randomly
like it's clipping). It's so annoying. The reception is amazing and just like
that, it starts cutting out. Only happens with radio.

I am sorry I mis-understood. I thought you meant Running Day Lights I was reading too quickly. As to the RDS for you radio I have no idea how to turn that on and off. Sorry about that.

If my memory is good you need to be in radio mode and then hit the info button. You should see RDS come up with the box checked.....uncheck it. Don't quote me on this cause it's been awhile since I had my 4.6is............Phil

Like X-rider said...
If car w/o Nav.. you need to press and hold the RDS button till it turn off.
BTW the RDS on have nothing to do with channels cuts of randomly
like it's clipping....all it does is telling you the name of the station and the tillte of the song is playing...

I've tried turning it off, but the little astrix still stays on and the RDS symbol doesn't turn off.
I heard that reception is better without RDS because it's in analog mode? I just wanted to try
my radio with it off to compare, but It seems that it doesn't turn off. Maybe my radio module has been programmed or something???

Have you tried selecting a station that does not broadcast RDS? The RDS signal is outside the audio bandwidth (it's actually at 58kHz or three times the 19kHz Stereo Pilot Tone that allows your receiver to determine left and right channels). All you do when selecting it on is turn the decoder on in the radio, but that should not affect the audio demodulation at all.

Is the radio dropping out of stereo into mono and that fast signal switching is causing the clipping? Most radios will drop to mono in weak signal areas as a way of keeping at least some audio going.

Does it do it on all radio channels?

Do you use EON (Enhanced Other Network) which will switch from transmitter to transmitter as you change service areas - assuming you have very wide area coverage or national coverage networks. EON signal switching in two weak areas could do it as the radio changes receivers (EON uses 2). Europe invented RDS and RDS EON but I don't know how much has been implemented and what 'modes' made available to you hence the possibly strange questions.

If not then look for aerial connections to be clean and all the plugs tight as you don't report the issue on any other audio source.
