It tight fit... I think the E70 seats are little wider than E53 seats...Major electrical conversion ... Like wiring harnesses mounting rails

Thanks for that, the yellow wiring connectors look identical on both seats.
So you reckon the rails are different too? Roy. |

Hello,
does anybody know if the E70´s seats fits a E53?. I´m driving a 4,8is E53 with sportseats and would like to have the E70´s comfort seats. I would compare the wireness of the seats in Wds... but the other question is if they fit geometrical?! |

Just save yourself a headache and get a set of comfort seats for an E53. I upgraded my seat on my E53 with comfort seat from another E53.

The buttom of the E70 Comfortseats are similar to the sportseats of the E53, thats why i would like to have them in my e53.
Also some of them have ventilation. Maybe it would be possible to switch it on by a simple switch?! |

Please impress and enlighten us by doing a retro fit mod of the E70 seats and posting in a DIY. I am sure many will be interested upon your successful integration.

This would. be interesting to see how it's done...especially since the e70 has a totally different communication bus system vs the older generation e53. The e53 seat module (PM-SM) is designed to communicates over the P bus & K bus. (See topology charts below)
We either have the Kombi bus. (identified by the low cluster)....or the I/K/M/P/Can?Dianostic bus (identified by the high cluster). The newer generation e70 has a more complex communication bus with its LIN, MOST, Byteflight, BSD, etc. Will some type of intermediary component be required to get the seat control modules to communicate over a different type of communication bus because they are expecting to send/receive differently? I know some really clever owners have worked on and gotten the new style nav screens to work in older gen BMWs...so curious if this will be required with other components like the seats. Example of new gen BMW communication bus (aka the ones that have iDrive)..the driver's seat control module (SMFA) communicates over the K-CAN S bus....see chart below. And for in depth details about the e70 X5 seats and how the various commands for them to function are carried out....click this link for a BMW PDF about the e70 seats: http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/e7...70%20Seats.pdf ![]() Example of the e53's older communication bus setups: ![]() ![]() ![]()
