ipod integration

I have a 2005 x5 with Nav, no DSP, BMW ipod integration in the glove box. I used to have a working Telematics (TCU) that enabled my phones (blackberry and iphone) to work with bluetooth hands free. The TCU is dead and wont reset. A new one is over $750 installed and a used one is around $250 plus the coding by BMW is another $200...

So, I am thinking of getting a media bridge 1500 and installing it instead. However, I think i need to remove the existing ipod integration kit which i think is installed in the back of the head unit - not in the trunk.

Anyone have any experience with this?
