Thanks for the reply, only asking because a friend of mine who has a 2004 E-class Merc was told that he couldn't fit RFT's to his original alloys !! I found it hard to believe myself, but the more opinions the better i suppose.

RE: RUNFLATS
I can say with confidence that the advice your friend was given is correct or at least in Aus. The rims that runflat tyres are fitted to are reinforced in design to accommodate the increased stresses inflicted by the lack of yeild in the side wall of run flat tyres which is how they remain relatively intact in the event of pressure loss. In Aus it is illegal to fit runflat tyres to standard rims. ( I have runflat tyres on my E53 )

From your picture i take it you are running on E70 alloys hence the run flats.
Are you therefore saying that its a no no to fit the RFT's to the 4.8is wheels. |

RE: RFTs
Well its a no no in Aus, what compounds the problem with RFTs is the low profile. Yes I'm running M series wheels which came with RFTs and I seriously can't wait until they wear down enough to justify replacing them. I can understand why other manufacturers dont fit them to their vehicles, its all very well to say in the event of a puncture you can still drive your car but what happens if you hit some thing that destroys your tyre, and you have no spare 'der' to BMW.

The problem with fitting RFTs if you don't have a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) you might not know when a tire has lost pressure. They are not meant to be driven for a long distances with no pressure.

Hi i have the TPMS,just need to know whether it is physically possible to fit the tyres, and whether there will be any safety issues afterwards.

If you have TPMS it should be fine.
