Input on Yokohama Advan S4, Dunlop SP Signature, Toyo Proxes ST II
Ok, sounds like I need to order new tires next week. Thanks for the assessment on other post btw. That helped me make a decision.
Now.. which ones. I've narrowed it down to these three; Yokohama Advan S4, Dunlop SP Sport Signature, Toyo Proxes ST II. Did some searches yesterday but I'm not seeing much feedback, historically. Maybe these are too new?? Anyways, thought I'd ask. (4) 255, 50, R19 Looking for: - Good ride comfort. Great, if possible, but not at the cost of good cornering. - Very quiet. - Excellent cornering. (Flatter. Less squish) - Quick responsive initial turn in (Not dead or mushy, or 'late' to respond to steering input). - Cool looks. Defined as; More solid shoulder blocks (easier to clean and tire dress. Looks better imo too). Slightly rounded shoulder (don't care for a folded over edge look. Slightly tilted in sidewall profile, rather than straight up and down. Minimal sidewall graphics (again.. easy clean and dress. Only have so many minutes! haha..). Don't care about snow traction. I have military grade winter tires. hehe.. Don't care so much about getting lots of miles out of them. Smooth over city-junk streets, quiet, flat cornering, good turn in, and looks are far more important. Trying to keep cost below $240 per tire. I'm seriously leaning towards the Yokohama. I've never owned them before. Frankly.. its the looks. I think they're a very cool looking tire. Any input on the above attributes? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/BigPic...omCompare1=yes What I really want, is a the same tire I have on both Z3's; Dunlop SP Sport Maxx. Designed and made in Germany. Way cool looking. Top marks on every attribute listed above. Best tire I've every owned. But, they don't make them for the X. The SP Sport Signature is new. I don't know where they're designed and made, and I'm trying to be smart about not making assumptions it was the same engineering team as the Sport Maxx. It looks a little different (side wall geometry) which makes me wonder if it is not the same ultra high performer as the Maxx. One plus, these are the least expensive; $196, after $10 rebate. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/BigPic...omCompare1=yes Used to buy Toyos a long time ago. Frankly, the only reason I'm looking again is that they look cool. I see them on lots of X's, Mercs, Rovers... but I know that its because they're less $$$ and the local Les Schwab tire chain in this state pushes them. http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/proxes-st-ii Not gonna get Contis again. Awesome look. Super cushy smooth ride (like, really excellent smooth). But handle poorly. Ultra squishy soft tire wall. Had to run them at 40 pounds. Huge Michelin fan. But the Latitude line just doesn't work for me on looks. Too busy, too hard to clean. Too sharp of a shoulder. Thanks for any input guys! Last edited by TurnAround; 05-30-2011 at 10:52 AM.
