Pairing was not the issue. In fact I had no problem pair my old blackberry. problem started 5 months after pairing. When making calls i could not hear the other person. they could hear me. That is when the TCU started crashing and drain the battery. After I denied using a non approved phone, the dealer told me this usually happens when a no-approved c-phone is paired with the BMW bluetooth. After a whlie the software of the phone crashes the TCU software. This is usually not recoverable.

I had the same problem pairing a Palm 700P. Couldn't hear the other person. Finally got it right and it never Crashed the TCU. It just continued to work until I got another phone. The Palm wasn't on the list either. The dealer knowing about my attempt to pair the palm just told me that some devices would work and some wouldn't. Out of all the attempts to pair and use phones that were not on the list I don't recall one time any of them crashed the TCU or anyone mentioning the warranty issue. But that was my experience.
