Unhappy 2004 4.4i X5 Oil and Smoke issues.

Noticed white smoke while I was in traffic from the right side Exhaust of my X5 which stopped when I drove off on the freeway. 2 weeks later I get a check Oil Level flashing at me and had to top up with nearly 4 litres before I got it back on the dipstick level again.

Its been 2 months now and I get the Check Oil Level Light again with smoke also and when I checked the oil I was so low I had to put in another 3 litres after driving only 1000miles.

The white smoke from the exhaust is more now and has a distinctive smell. I checked both breather valves and they look OK with the gaskets still new also looked at the CCV today with a friend and they look clean and OK with a little bit of sludge but that looks normal.

I am so worried and need help Guys, the car is a 2004 4.4i X5 with 81000miles on it and I live and work in west africa with not very reliable mechanics and need to have an idea of what to check before I get into their scary hands. Any advise and ideas would be appreciated please
