>BUMP<

This just happened to my wife's 2004 X5 3.0 last night. She almost drove into a ditch off a curve in the road @ 5mph (steering stopped working). The vehicle was running prior for approximately 30 minutes. I had her turn it completely off (she wasn't sure if it was still running or not) and start it back up.

I can't find any information on this issue from her description, except for your post.

Has the issue come back at all? And, did you receive any technical information on this matter?

Thanks for any info!

Thanks for the tip!

Yesterday, I visually inspected the lines I could see - all appeared to be connected and the rubber was in good condition. With everything neat in appearance, it makes it difficult to work on. I suppose, I'll break out the stethoscope and carb cleaner to hunt it down. Again, thank you!

Check the air intake boots. If a clip is loose they can pop off and be a real pain.

My first post but have been lurking here for the past year....

I had this same problem happen to me twice. Turns out, my gas gauge was wrong and I had run out of gas when the gauge said I had a quarter tank left. The second one was on i80 and I was traveling along at 80 when it happened. Talk about being scared! Was able to restart and putt off the exit to a gas station.

Don't know if this is/was your problem but I had mine repaired and hasn't happened since

It could be electronic sensor-if a sensor fails, the on-board computer will not be able to recognize the temperature outside and adjust the air/fuel mixture accordingly. u can use a diagnose tool to narrow the problem down to a particular sensor. Or it could be your fuel pump..open your hood and have someone start your engine for you, if you hear the "whuuur", the fuel pump is good. hopefully this will help
