advise needed

Sold a MKIII nav ...working perfectly to fellow member.
He gets it ...determines it was not the problem, then informs me he is returning it and expects a refund....should I be offended? Who does this?

Sticky situation, but here goes. Under the assumption that you the seller did not form an agreement with the buyer stating upon receipt and installation of the functioning MKIII unit the buyer has the option to return the unit to the seller for a refund if it is discovered that the MKIII unit is not the solution to the problem the buyer was experiencing. You have no obligation to issue a refund or accept the returned item. It would be nice but not at all necessary.

But I have a question; Did you advise the buyer that the MKIII unit you sold would eliminate the problem the buyer was experiencing? If so, ethically I think you should refund the buyer's money since you aided in the misdiagnosis of the issue.

I may be wrong, but that is just my take on it.

If it was just an item you had for sale and he said he needed, he owns it

If you recommended it would solve the problem, you should take it back

I only stated it works perfect. I knew this because it was still in use. I sold it to upgrade to MKIV. This is classic buyers remorse or a fast one. Neither of which I am going to chance with a delicate 9 year old piece of electronics that I didn't mark to know if it is even mine that would come back. Your input is appreciated.

He has every right to re-sell it himself. Maybe even make a profit!
