Noise problem with my new sub install...

Recall that I finally got my Allstar sub box and amp in after it all sat on the shelf in my garage for quite a few months. Sounds great on FM and Sirius, but I've got some problems with strange noise....

I listen to a couple of AM channels for rush hour traffic. No noise on AM 780, but now I've got horrible squeeling on 890, and strange rumbling noises on 1000.

While listening to Fox news on Sirius I'm getting thumping from the sub, even if I turn the volume completely down. Can hear the sub thumping 3 times quickly every few seconds. Can't seem to hear it on other channels but haven't tried yet.

I pull the amp fuse and it's all back to normal.

Power wire from battery to amp is 10awg wire
Ground is also 10 gage and is maybe 3 ft long and goes to the factory ground spot in the spare wheel well that the posts here, and the tutorial on the BSW site all recommend.

The cyclical thumping has me wondering if I'm picking up Hall effect pulses. The speaker wires from amp to sub follow the wiring harness across the back of the spare tire well, and are directly adjacent to my trailer hitch wiring box. But it could be almost anything. Ideas??

My sub would cut in and out or just create a magical booooom that would scare shit out of me sometimes. I checked and rechecked the connections and splices and it wouldn't stop. Finally I respliced everything and added heat shrink connectors and it's been peachy.

I guess what I'm saying is re-check all connections....but that's obvious.

Yea, guess that's the next step. I was hoping for something obvious that I overlooked in the install.

Make sure All Signal Wires (RCA's) are away from any power wires or antennas, Inducted noise from outside source is very common for cars of such "Quality" lol. But seriously MECP standard is that any power carrying wire should not run along or next to any signal carrying wire. Ex: Run power on the driver side and Run Signal on the Pass. if they should pass Make sure its at a 90 degree angle or no less than 85 degrees.

Sounds like you have a Dirty Signal to me, Are you using a Line output Converter? or do you have any after market headunit and using the preouts on the headunit?

I'm running a Pioneer single channel sub amp with both line level inputs speaker level inputs, obviously I'm using the speaker level in lieu of a separate LOC. My power wire runs from the battery to the amp and doesn't follow any other wires until it gets to the amp. It does cross the input wires but I did cross at 90 degrees. I can try to rerun them without crossing and see if that helps. Only other thing is that the input wires go directly under the amp, wonder if the amp itself is the source of the stray signals.

Thanks for the input

Did you ever figure this out? I believe that you need to use a loc to get a good signal. The signal comming from the speaker is being distorted.
