2006 4.4i startup issue

Hello guys,

I'm having an issue with my new to me 2006 X5 4.4i. Whenever the engine is cold it has some kind of miss or sputter during the initial startup. If you turn it off and back on again there is no miss whatsoever. It doesn't have to be cold outside (actually here in the tropic it's never cold outside). It just needs to be sitting overnight and even if it's 90 degrees outside it will still do it.

I bought the vehicle on February of this year, with about 40K kms (25K miles) and have no complaints about it other than this annoying issue. It drives perfect, no noises, nothing.

I installed a stage 2 Afe intake thinking that it might be related to some kind of leak in the stock one. But it did not solve the problem.

Here is a little youtube video of the issue happening:

I hope this is not an early sign of the intermediate levers problem.

Any comments are highly appreciated.

Regards

sounds like it could be intermediate levers...

mine went at about 75k miles, it would be shake on start up accompanied by the SES light flashing..

its a start up misfire--has the service engine soon light flashed? get the code read

No light flashing at all. Did your problem start with no engine light flashing and got worse over time to the point that it got misfires?

Forgot to mention that I also installed new plugs when I put the intake on

I could be wrong, but I think the levers only act up in the cold (like mine do). Others state that it could be the MAF or a leak in the intake.

If you had your problem before new plugs and intake, I would look somewhere else.

Yes, the problem was there before the intake and plugs.

About the MAF, I haven't done anything about it. I was thinking that if the MAF was the problem the miss/sputter would be worse. I might be take it off and clean it

Judging from the sound on the video clip I also have that problem. My car has the same hesitant start up sound from time to time....but strangely it most often occurs when I restart the engine not long after turning the engine off. Thus it happens to me when the engine is warm. Confusingly I never pull codes from the car...but I only have torque on android.

Clean your injectors, it could be dirty.
