Chipping on Front Bumper..??

Ok...any ideas...? I just noticed that on the front bumper on my X5 has a couple areas that are chipping (near the fog lights and on the top part of the bumper) The stuff that is chipping off is clear, no paint is coming off..? It is almost like the clear coat is chipping..but not sure.

Any insight would really help.

What you are seeing is the top clear coat(varnish) peeling off.Did you have your bumper resprayed recently?Peeling always happens when the bodyshop didnt bother to prepare the surface paint properly to accept the top clear coat or let your paint dry for too long and then applied the top coat! This way the top clear coat has no base to adhere and after a while peels off!
Did you wash your bumper with a high pressure machine using the needle jet nozzle spray?Did you buy your car used?

The above are all factors that I need to know in order to help you further!

Why not try the Lower 3M Clear bra? Roc3b is selling the clear bra for a great price.

Well I bought the car CPO'd from the dealer in July of this year. It had two previous owners. No known accident history. It does appear to be a clearcoat of some kind, because the silver color is still there on the front bumper. I hand wash the car all the time. It has been cold here in portland lately, but that should not matter. I noticed it after I washed the car this weekend, and it had been about two weeks since the last wash and I did not notice it.

Any ideas, I could use them... Thanks!!!

I have a clear bra 3m piece that extends from one fog light to the other that you can put there to keep the chips and flaking from happening....I paid $500 for the whole thing you can have this part for 29.00.

The clear coat(varnish)is part of your cars paintwork! Its what makes your silver colour shine!(You will notice that on the parts that are peeling ,the silver colour is dull). As I said before,Your clearcoat is peeling off because your bumper was resprayed and wasnt done properly for the reasons I already explained before!
Since you bought you car in July, take it back and demand that your bumper is resprayed properly under warranty.
After this you can get the Clear Bra 3M piece to protect it.
