I'm just recently starting to have similar start/battery probs, battery is only about 3 years old... (at least I hope it's just the battery and not a new short somewhere that's draining the battery all of a sudden
Two questions for All:
1) Anyone had good luck or use Interstate as a repalcement?
2) As I'd like to avoid goin' to th' Stealer for this, just want to replace it myself (and have already read this thread and others), I understand about the general warning lites resetting, but will it (doin' this at home), reset/effect the "service countdown bar" lites as well? ('05)

Search on battery replacement, any specific experiences with different brands will be noted.

Replacing the battery won't affect your service lights.

Looked previously, no one really discusses Interstate, which is what most Indie shops and many dealers around here push for both BMW and Porsche as OEM replacement, s'why I asked...
Thanks for info re the service lights tho...

I'm having a similar issue, but I doubt its my battery. The symptom is: Intermittently, regardless whether the car is warm or cold, my car would not start on the first turn key, but the warning lights and the gauge would light up, but the car just simply would not start. So I would turn the key to the off position and the car started right up on the second try. Would anyone know what the cause of this? I had previously asked the dealer. They told me it could possibly be the key, or the transponder, or the DMS issue. Anyone want to take a guess?

Any of the key, transponder, ignition switch itself, or EWS system. Others have reported that these same symptoms were resolved by replacement of the IVM (Integrated Power Supply). Not sure what the DMS issue is.

Many of these modules can be expensive. Recommend you get the codes read for the fault you are having before replacing random parts.

Thanks for your quick reply! There were no codes thrown when this happened. No engine check lights or anything. The car just didn't start on the first crank. Only started on the second crank. I have never seen anything like that on any BMW's i have owned.....
