Help with rear wiper motor

Hey guys I'm new here and I need some help. I changed the rear wiper motor on my moms 2002 X5 because it would stop working randomly. I went through the procedure of changing it and tested it to hear it work and figured it was good. I didn't know until after I got it back together and test running it that this motor was not working right. it stops in an incorrect position and the way it travels prevents me from just moving the wiper. The picture shows where it rests when stopped or turned off. it will move down to the bottom and then kick back up when turned on.

I was wondering if there is a calibration set up I need to do before I decide to replace it again.
