4.4 X5 sometimes takes awhile to start

Greetings all. I have a 2000 X5 with the 4.4 that we've owned for about a month. Sometimes when starting, it will turn over for 4-8 seconds before actually running and occassionally not at all. It seems if I turn the key to Accessory before starting it does fine. Has anyone else had similar problems? I've been thinking either fuel pump or possibly idle control valve (it will sometimes stall after a hard time starting). Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
