03 X5 3.0 Tranny problem?

Ok so I am driving my X yesterday and all of a sudden it wont go. It has power but will not accelerate. When I put it in park it would roll backwards. Looks like the transmission or a component of it. I had no warning. It literally just happened in the middle of the road. Has this happened to anyone else? I had it towed to my indy but it will be Monday before I find anything out and I am scared to death of what it may be and how much it will cost to repair. This car only has 69K on it.

Sound like it might be the transfer case or the front drive splines.

Agree with TriX5.

The front output shaft of the transfer case fails where the front driveshaft connects. The BMW fix is often a new transfer case. It is possible to have the output yoke repaired without replacing the transfer case, if that is it. A driveline machine shop can do it.
