All-Season Tire HELP

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I have a few questions and hope someone will be able to help me. I tried searching the forum but didn't get an answer I was looking for.

I recently sold my 2002 BMW 325xi and purchased a 2003 BMW X5 a week ago. It came with Goodyear Wrangler HP tires which were rated really badly on tiretrack.com.

There are 3 tires I am looking at: Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus, Michelin Latitude Tour HP and Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza. I am leaning more towards the Latitude or MXV4. At one point I was considering Pirelli ATR but my friend who also has an X5, has had very bad experience with Pirellis. That friend is telling me to get the MXV4 but the reviews are better on the Latitude.

I will be taking the car to Eastern Europe where I will be using it. I need a quiet tire that is good on dry and wet roads and can handle light and deeper snow decently since they don't really use salt there and they don't clean the roads that often either. I can't afford to by winter tires separately. I will be using it 97% on the road and 3% (or less) off road and nothing serious (old gravel roads). I need a safe tire since I will be driving my 2 1/2 and 1 year old children.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Quicksilver. That is a great review. However, it doesn't compare the Latitude to the MVX4. If anyone has compared those two, I would love to hear about it.

Neither of the Micheys are especially great in real snow or steep, slippery ascents/descents, imo.
They will "work", but barely in serious winter conditions...
I understand your reluctance to buy a second wheel/tire set. Both Micheys are very good tires, imo.
...just made for normal driving and not serious winter driving, imo.

I just got the Michelin latitude's and they are super quiet and smooth. But I haven't had a chance to drive them in snow and I won't be finding out either since I have separate winter tires. But a couple of people I know are running the latitudes all year round and have told me they do a fairly good job in snow. I've driven them in rain quite a bit and have found them to be wonderful.

I've been using Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus since I got the truck 6 yrs ago & I can tell you I've had no problem through Northeast Ohio snow ...nor rain...

The number 1 Consumer Reports tire is the General Grabber. I was tired of sub-par performance from the last 2 set of Michelin's, so I decided to give the General a try. Inexpensive, and not too bad. I drive a 2000 4.4, mostly on interstate highway commute.

I purchased a few months ago Pirelli Scorpion Assimetrico All Season tires. I was thinking about the Michelin Latitude All Season's but the tire rep at Mavis directed me to the Pirelli's. They were both priced about the same so the Mavis rep wasn't trying to get more money out it. So far the Pirelli's have been great! Definitely smoother and quieter than the Michelin Diamaris that I previously had. Plus these tires really keep the X5 surefooted in the rain. I haven't had a chance to test the Pirelli's in the winter yet though.
