2004 BMW X5: Braking Lining Error Code
Three months back I replaced Brakes/Rotors/Brake Sensors on the X5. Recently I got a 'check brake lining' error code on my dash. I took the SUV in for an oil change (don't have the time lately) and they said everything looks good brakes wise. They suspect it might be the brake fluid level sensor, that is causing the error. Is that possible? what else could it be? -Sphinx |

If you did front and rear brakes, and replaced both sensors, then it could be a bad sensor, or a bad connection in the wiring harness on either the LF or RR brake sensor.

this, 'then it could be a bad sensor, or a bad connection in the wiring harness on either the LF or RR brake sensor.' sounds like a very complicated troubleshooting situation? how do I even begin??

I would start by disconecting the said sensors and check the terminals to ensure they are clean. I suspect that when you reconnect the fault will clear, if not you can bridge the two terminals with a piece of wire, this should then clear the fault and therefore indicate the sensor you will need to replace.
But as JCL said did you replace your rear brakes? |

I did replace both rear and front brakes pads/rotors/sensors.
