Happy holidays.. a few questions...

Happy holidays everyone.. just got my 01 4.4i back from the stereo shop and noticed a few things and wanted to ask the experts here:

1. The right rear trunk light on the hatch is missing. There are a couple of dangling wires and I am not sure how to source the whole fixture. This is two lights that shine from above when you lift the rear glass hatch.

2. I had an Alpine overheard DVD player installed (PKG-RSE2) and it has a nice set of LED lights built-in but I can only turn it on manually. It does not turn on when I open the door and set the switch on the Alpine overhead DVD player to activate upon opening the door. I can't remember if the rear dome lights actually turned on when I opened the door. The installer claims there is a missing wire?

3. My fuel gauge does not work. I will try a fuel cleaner agent and switching to Shell gas. If all else fails I will have the fuel senders checked but wasn't sure if there any other suggestions.

4. What should the instrument gauge panel look like? I thought I was able to determine how many miles I had left and other useful information on my dashboard but it seems to have disappeared. I still get the "Lights On" and other messages but otherwise the area below the odometer remains blank after I start the car. Can someone post a pic of a "healthy" or "working" gauge cluster?

Thanks,
- Newbie...

Don't think that you can use LED lights for the overhead light since they have the "Dim on and Dim off" feature.

Push the button on the end of the turn signal stalk (Stalk on the left) to cycle through the LCD messages.

Ditto for question #4 (plus more). The 20 digit alpha/numeric display on the instrument cluster actually has first priority to the Check Control system (warnings). The ability for the OBC features to appear there is an added benefit and have to be "programmed" to appear in the instrument cluster display. The dedicated display for the OBC is either the MID or the Nav monitor (which ever you X5 has...of which you didn't mention your set-up).

When electrical power was disrupted (for your install)...the OBC features now need to be reprogrammed (probably along with a few other things like your clock). You can program ALL the OBC features to appear in the cluster display...or you can select specific ones that you prefer (I only use TIME/DATE/CONS1/RANGE/STOPWATCH).

Again, since you didn't mention any specifics as to what set-up you have...the instructions for the MID are below. If you have a Nav screen, you can probably figure it out by extrapolating the instructions from below...just substitute "Nav monitor" for "MID". If you get stuck...then turn to your Nav owners manual for instructions on how to program the OBC features into the cluster.

{programing the instrument cluster to display OBC features}
