headlights/dash randomly turning off

Hey guys, I have a 2005 X5 3.0 and sometimes at night with my light switch set to auto my headlights and dash will not come on. It seems like there is something wrong with my light sensor or light switch? Some times at night when I turn on the car the lights will come on for 10 seconds then turn off, but sometimes they turn on and will stay on.

does anybody know if I replace the sensor then it will fix my problem? I found another thread on the rain sensor and there seem to be a module and a sensor that is stuck onto the glass?

Thanks

there are some bubbles when I look at my sensor from the outside. Between the sensor and my windshield?
