Secondary Air Pump Repair/Rebuild

Just curious if anyone has ever attempted to open up the secondary air pump and repair it rather than buying a new one. It's just an air pump and it seems like a fairly simple design. I found a video on youtube of some guy opening up the air pump on his E36 but he all he did was reseal it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeV-djm8b_8

When I start my X up, it sounds like a supercharger or a turbine for a bit. It's been like this for about 8 or 9 months now, but it's staying on longer as time passes and getting more annoying. No check engine light and I have no codes stored whatsoever, so I'm not very concerned at the moment. I just would like to avoid spending 200-300 on a part that's basically useless other than extending the life of my 10 year old catalytic converters.

Anyone thoughts?
